Challenger Spotlight: Cloyd Gaffney, Jr., C&C Seafood

They say that entrepreneurship is a family affair, and that’s the case for Cloyd Gaffney, Jr.  The UVa-Wise student started C&C Seafood with his father on April 26, 2009. The seasonal retail operation is based in South Carolina.

“I’ve made a lot of connections and learned a lot,” says Cloyd. “Price and quality are critical, as is dependability.”  Dependable sources for fresh seafood are infrequent in Southwest Virginia, so Cloyd thinks he might see an opportunity.

“With the quality of life here and more people finding out about the area and choosing to settle here, I think we could create something special,” says Cloyd, “a bit of coastal flavor in the mountains.”
